Gopal Deshpande, the author of Marathi poem Amrita-Tarangini (River
of Ambrosia), the Sanskrit poem Godalahari and the two Sanskrit
plays viz. Shri Guruprasadam and AdiShankaracharitam was born
on 15th Aug 1930.He received his education upto matriculation
in Mehkar (Buldhana District of Maharashtra). He received the
Sinclair Gold Medal in 1946 for standing first in Sanskrit in
Matriculation.
In
1947, he won the G.S.Chaturvedi Gold Medal for standing first in
Prajna Exam in Nagpur University.And in 1948;he won the R.G.Khandekar
Silver Medal in Intermediate Exam in Arts for being first in Sanskrit.
In B.A he obtained first Division with Distinction
in Sanskrit,
after receiving Junior and Senior Shirole Sanskrit Scholarships
from 1946-50,he did his M.A in Sanskrit after obtaining LLB Degree
in first Division in 1952.
